Therapeutic Procedures
The most common therapeutic procedure used by Chiropractic doctors is known as “spinal manipulation,” and can also be called “chiropractic adjustment.” In other words, it is a full spine adjustment. The purpose of spine adjustment is to restore joint movements by applying a controlled amount of force into joints that have become restricted in their movement as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by just one simple event. Improper lifting of a heavy object, acquiring repetitive stresses such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time can all cause tissue injury. In either case, the injured tissue typically undergoes physical and chemical changes that may cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the person suffering. Adjustment of the affected joint and tissues restores mobility, which alleviates pain and muscle tightness, allowing tissues to heal.
Chiropractic adjustment usually does not cause discomfort, but it does occur. Patients may sometimes experience mild soreness or aching following treatment (as with some forms of exercise) that usually resolves within 12 to 48 hours. However, at Poladian Chiropractic Offices, we offer a variety of physical therapy to resolve spine injuries.
